Rives
Studio MTX presents Rives, an exceptional edition of The Leaves, created in collaboration with artist Marie de Lignerolles and Atelier Montex. For the first time, the studio’s spatial panels are opened up to artistic intervention, giving rise to a unique piece that introduces a new spatial experience.
For this collaboration, Mathieu Bassée, Artistic Director of Studio MTX, sought to explore color as an expressive medium. The choice of collaborators naturally turned to Marie de Lignerolles, for her mastery of deep, layered chromatic compositions, and Atelier Montex, whose embroidery brings light and vibrancy to the surface. These contributions complement and amplify one another, reinforcing the way The Leaves shape spatial perception.
Studio MTX then entrusted Atelier Montex with the embroidery: sequins and spangles, applied tone-on-tone using Lunéville crochet, give the drawing spatial depth and continuity. The panels are finished with a brushed brass flat bar, fixed with rivets and mounted on sliding rails.
“Studio MTX has a resolutely innovative spirit. Collaborations are always something of a leap into the unknown, but they allow our expertise to explore new possibilities. The collaboration with Marie de Lignerolle brings evocative power to the Leaves, transforming them into hybrid objects.” - Mathieu Bassée, Artistic Director, Studio MTX

“This collaboration marks a turning point in my practice, opening access to a new scale of work—monumental and spatial. From the support designed by Studio MTX to the finishes produced by Montex, embroidery unfolds a new field of artistic expression.” - Marie de Lignerolles
To bring this concept to life, Studio MTX invited Marie de Lignerolles to approach The Leaves as a blank canvas. The artist developed an original drawing in which fields of color, tonal densities and textures engage in a sensitive dialogue with light, echoing the natural transparency of each panel. Digitized in ultra-high definition, the drawings were printed onto textile and then reworked by hand, preserving the full subtlety of each nuance.

The presentation of Rives offered visitors a fully immersive experience, where visual perception is complemented by a bespoke soundscape.
The studio thus invited musician and composer Olivier Hazemann to imagine a musical composition inspired by the project. The result is a creation unfolding in sequences and layers that expresses, far more intimately than words, its deeper nature and the emotions it evokes.
Here, piano notes shimmer like the sequins of the embroidery; there, movements of strings echo the ebb and flow of the drawing; elsewhere, the sounds of a synthesiser resonate with the strata and lines of The Leaves…
